A Simple Guide to Our Breakfast Serving Times

There is nothing quite like waking up to the smell of bacon and fresh coffee on a seaside morning in Hornsea. Whether you are here for a bracing walk along the promenade, a day at Hornsea Mere, or simply a quiet getaway, a good breakfast sets you up for the day. We want your morning meal to be relaxed, unhurried, and exactly the way you like it. That is why we run our breakfast service with two flexible sittings. The only thing we ask is that you let us know your preferred time the night before.

Why We Ask You to Choose the Night Before

Running a small bed and breakfast means we prepare as much as possible fresh each morning. Knowing how many guests will be at each sitting helps us plan the cooking, lay the tables, and make sure there is always plenty of hot toast and a full pot of tea. It also means we can accommodate early starts and lazy lie-ins without anyone feeling rushed. You can tell us your preferred sitting when you check in, or simply pop down to the dining room before 9pm and let us know. If you forget, don't worry — we will find you.

Our Two Morning Sittings Explained

We offer two main sittings, each lasting around an hour and a half. You are welcome to arrive at any point within your chosen window.

  • Early Sitting: 7:30am – 9:00am — perfect for guests catching a ferry from Hull, heading out on a birdwatching trip to Bempton Cliffs, or wanting to make the most of a full day exploring the Yorkshire coast.
  • Later Sitting: 9:00am – 10:30am — ideal if you fancy a slow start, a lie-in, or a leisurely breakfast before a stroll along the seafront. We keep the coffee flowing until the last guest leaves.

If you need something outside these times — say, a very early departure before 7:30am — just ask. We can usually arrange a continental breakfast or a packed breakfast to take with you, provided we know by the night before.

What to Expect at the Table

Our breakfast is proper Yorkshire hospitality. You will find a generous cold buffet with cereals, porridge, fresh fruit, yoghurt, and homemade preserves. Then there is the cooked menu, cooked to order. The full English includes local bacon, sausages, free-range eggs, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, and black pudding. We also offer lighter options such as poached eggs on toast, smoked haddock with poached egg, or a vegetarian cooked breakfast. Kippers are a popular choice — we source them from a nearby smokehouse. Let us know if you have any dietary requirements, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

For the Early Risers

Hornsea is at its best in the early morning. The light over the sea is beautiful, the promenade is quiet, and the beach is yours. If you are an early riser, the 7:30am sitting is made for you. We will have the kettle boiled and the first pot of coffee ready. You can be out the door by 8:15am with a full stomach and a flask if you like. Many guests head off to walk the coastal path or visit the local museum before the crowds arrive. Just let us know the night before, and we will make sure everything is ready.

For the Late Sleepers

Not everyone wants to leap out of bed at dawn on holiday. If you prefer a slower start, the 9:00am sitting is your friend. There is no rush, no queue, and no pressure to vacate the table. You can linger over a second cup of tea, read the paper, and plan your day at a gentle pace. We will keep the buffet topped up and the toast coming. If you are celebrating a special occasion, let us know — we might even have a few pastries or a glass of Buck's Fizz to start your morning.

Special Diets and Little Extras

We want everyone to enjoy breakfast, so please tell us about any allergies, intolerances, or preferences when you book or at least the night before. We regularly cater for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan guests. We can also provide a packed breakfast if you are heading out early, or a flask of hot water for a day on the coast. Highchairs and smaller portions for children are available. And if you just want a bowl of porridge and a banana at 7:30am, that is absolutely fine too.

Whatever time you choose, the most important thing is that you start your day in Hornsea feeling looked after. So have a word with us the night before, pick your sitting, and we will take care of the rest.
