Hornsea is a small and pretty unspoiled seaside town on the East Yorkshire coast. With a resident population of around 8000 people the town is well known for the Hornsea Freeport a shopping village and leisure park and the wonderful Hornsea Mere which forms Yorkshires largest fresh water lake. Here you can take out a rowing boat and enjoy bird watching or simply feed the baby ducks before enjoying an extremely good lunch in the lovely old fashioned café there.
You can spend your days wandering from the Folk Museum to the beautiful Hallgarth Park or maybe weather permitting have a super day on Hornsea Beach and of course the town is famous for its fish and chip shops!! At certain times of the year you can take a trip to Wassand Hall which was the stately home of Lord and Lady Constable and this has now been renovated by their heirs, the house and gardens are a pleasure to visit and its lovely to see how much the family care for the heritage of the town. You can actually walk around Wassand Hall and Hornsea Mere on an established walkway, it takes approx 2 hours but on a lovely day it is just the job! Located on the famous Trans Pennine trail Hornsea is a great stop for cyclists to re charge the batteries!
An array of local Shops, Restaurants, and Pubs are all there to be tried and for such a small town we have Banks and a Post Office along with a large Tescos on the edge of the town. Should you wish to venture a little farther afield then the lovely market town of Beverley is only a 20 minute drive away, and if a larger seaside resort is a must for you then Bridlington and Scarborough are easily accessible. We are surrounded though by some sweet picturesque villages and a trip to York from Hornsea is often a must as you will pass through some great scenery on route!
Local services include a well ran leisure centre on the seafront with full size swimming pool and all sports facilities so no excuse to give up the exercise on vacation! We have a Doctors Surgery, Dental Clinics, Chemists, Excellent Vets Practice, Schools and Nursery s and a fabulous golf course and our golf club is recognised as one of the best in the area. St.Nicholas Church is situated right in the town centre and is a joy to see and to hear when they ring those bells!
A Sunday day out at Skirlington Market is only just up the coast and a ten minute journey to there will find a well ran market and car boot sale, kiddies entertainment area and five mins further along the road you will find yourself at Mr Moos ice cream parlour where they make a large range of home made ice creams – we bet you wont be able to resist!
